Board
members
of
the
Miami
Gay
and
Lesbian
Film
Festival
are
scheduled
to
address
the
Miami
Beach
Gay
Business
Ad
Hoc
Development
Committee
Tuesday
to
discuss
recent
financial
shortfalls
that
could
imperil
the
future
of
the
festival.
Last
month
MGLFF
laid
off
half
of
its
staff
in
response
to
a
shortfall
of
nearly
$100,000
in
corporate
sponsorships
and
grant
money.
The
festival,
which
recently
expanded
its
profile
in
Fort
Lauderdale,
is
one
of
the
premiere
GLBT
events
in
South
Florida.
Board
chair
Franc
Castro
and
Mark
“Marky
G”
Gilbert
are
expected
to
address
the
committee,
which
was
formed
this
year
to
further
develop
Miami
Beach’s
gay
business
profile.
Babak
Mohavedi,
who
chairs
the
committee,
said
he
will
ask
questions
to
explore
ways
of
helping
the
festival.
At
the
closing
night
party
in
May,
Castro
told
the
audience
that
if
the
festival
fails
to
raise
enough
money
to
match
a
community
grant,
they
should
“read
between
the
lines.”
Of
the
four
full
time
staffers
only
Festival/Program
Director
Carol
Coombes
remains.
Kareem
Tabsch,
Festival
Manager,
resigned
in
late
June.
The
meeting
takes
place
at
1
p.m.
Tuesday
July
29
at
the
Miami
Beach
Mayor’s
Conference
Room,
1700
Convention
Center
Drive,
Miami
Beach.
