As a child, I used to eagerly look forward to the annual Easter egg hunt. That wily Easter Bunny always seemed to come up with the best surprises. As Easter approaches in South Florida, the area clubs and bars have planned an equally surprising weekend for locals and visitors alike. The best part is you don’t have to wait until Sunday morning! Here are a few highlights from the upcoming week:
Friday, March 21
Kick off your Easter weekend at Score on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. Resident DJ/producer Abel will be celebrating his birthday at this South Beach hot spot. Look for a surprise entertainment act at midnight.
In downtown Fort Lauderdale, holiday festivities begin at China White Fridays at JetSet. The always fierce Mizz Cori will be hosting and DJ Chaos will be in the booth. Don’t miss the performances by the go-go vixens and a special show by T.P. Lords.
Saturday, March 22
DJ/producer Jarell will also be celebrating his birthday this weekend in Miami with his party at downtown late-night club Discotekka, 950 NE 2nd Ave. Arrive before midnight and the cover is just $5. Vegas Dion will be performing on stage.
DJ Manny Lehman will be headlining the Easter weekend bash at Flash Saturdays at Steel, 1951 NW 9th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. The new Gayety North room, featuring hot male strippers, will be manned by some of South Florida’s hottest men. You could also win an Atlantis cruise with Lehman tonight. No cover and $5 u-call-it drinks before midnight.
Sunday, March 23
Abel isn’t getting older; he’s getting better. The DJ and producer heads up I-95 for his second birthday party of the weekend, this time at Gary Santis’ Babylon T Dance at Voo Doo Lounge, 111 SW 2nd Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Abel will be spinning 11 hours of uninterrupted music from 5 p.m. until 4 a.m. While you’re there, check out the sexy sounds in the Noche Latina Room and don’t miss the world famous “Life’s a Drag” show at midnight on the patio stage.
Monday, March 24
There are lots of birthday celebrations this week. Tonight, the Fort Lauderdale Eagle’s owner, Tom “Rockin’ T” Rocco, celebrates his 50th birthday at the clothing optional Pompano bar, which also celebrates its first anniversary this week. The Eagle is located at 525 E. Sample Road.
Tuesday, March 25
South Beach promoter Edison Farrow kicks off the Winter Music Conference, the annual gathering of the biggest talents in the dance music world, with a special Martini Tuesdays event at Halo on Michigan Avenue in Miami Beach. DJ Fr8-O, Patrick Oliver and DJ Le Brion will provide the beats tonight. There is no cover.
Wednesday, March 26
Looking to unwind tonight? Talented pianist and vocalist Terry M. Cain will perform tonight at Dudes, 3270 NE 33rd St. in Fort Lauderdale. After the last set, head next door for some of the hottest male dancers in South Florida.
Thursday, March 27
The Winter Music Conference gets into full swing tonight at Score on Lincoln Road with Mike Cruz, Tracy Young, Cube Guys and DJ Pride. Inaya Day and Joi Cardwell will also perform live on stage.
